Xcel Energy will be performing a major upgrade to the main power feed supplying the Town of Center. This work will require a scheduled power outage on:

Saturday, February 21, 2026\ 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM (approximately 4–6 hours)

Please use this notice to prepare in advance.

RESIDENTS – PREPARE AHEAD

• Charge cell phones, tablets, and battery packs the night before\ • Keep flashlights and extra batteries available\ • Unplug sensitive electronics to prevent damage from power surges\ • Limit opening refrigerator/freezer doors to keep food cold\ • Have ready-to-eat food and drinking water available

BUSINESSES

• Plan ahead for register/card reader/internet interruptions\ • Protect perishable goods and refrigerated items\ • Consider posting notices for customers in advance\ • Unplug sensitive equipment to prevent surge damage when power is restored

MEDICAL / OXYGEN USERS

If you rely on oxygen, CPAP machines, refrigerated medication, or other medical equipment, please plan ahead with your provider.

Center School Library & Commons Area will be available during the outage for community members who need a power source for medical use ONLY.

Generator Safety

If using a generator:

• NEVER run it inside a home, garage, or near windows.
• Place it at least 20 feet away from doors and vents.
• Use heavy-duty outdoor extension cords.
• Do not backfeed into your home unless you have a proper transfer switch installed by a licensed electrician.

WHEN POWER RETURNS

• Plug appliances/electronics back in slowly\ • Expect brief fluctuations as service stabilizes\ • Reset clocks and alarms as needed

Town of Center

The Utilities Advisory Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the Town Board on matters related to municipal utility services including water, electric, gas, and related infrastructure. This is an opportunity to be involved in the planning, oversight, and future development of the Town’s utility systems.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:

• Have an active residential and/or commercial utility account with the Town of Center
• Possess basic experience and understanding of utility services and functions
• Be willing to attend meetings and actively participate in discussions and recommendations.

How to Apply:

Interested individuals must submit a Letter of Interest addressed to the Town Board.

Letters may be submitted to:

• The Public Works Department, or
• The Town Clerk at Center Town Hall.

This is a reminder that the scheduled power outage will take place tomorrow, Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, as confirmed by Xcel Energy. The Town of Center is soliciting statements of qualifications from qualified engineering firms that have experience and support capabilities to provide professional engineering and consulting services for Phase 1 of the North 90 site to be developed with attainable/workforce housing. The engineering services will focus on water, stormwater, sewer, electrical/gas, park and roadway design. The final engineering design for the site improvements will be coordinated with the final site plan prepared by the selected housing developer.

Town of Center Awarded Proposition 123 Local Planning Capacity Grant; Launches Affordable Housing Initiatives.

As part of this initiative, the Town of Center is actively seeking qualified respondents to several Requests for Proposals (RFPs) focused on planning, development, and implementation of affordable housing projects. These RFPs will outline opportunities for collaboration with planners, developers, and community stakeholders committed to creating sustainable and accessible housing solutions in Center.

• The upcoming RFP opportunities will be posted on the Town of Center’s official website. Interested parties are encouraged to check regularly for updates and submission deadlines.
• These efforts will align with and complement the Town’s previously awarded More Housing Now grant. Funding from that grant will enable infrastructure development in the North 90 area, laying the groundwork for future residential projects.
